Weeds and Lies

While digging in the dirt, the thought came “What do weeds and lies have in common?” And so, the pondering and conversation with my friend, Jesus, began. Being out of control is one thing common in weeds and lies. Because we are focusing on other things, then the weeds and lies continue to grow. If we neglect them, then they will continue to grow until they are out of control. We can see the weeds, but that doesn’t make them disappear. We will need to stop and pull them out for them to go away. And it may take several days to get out the ones that have been there awhile. Maintenance is the key in keeping the weeds away so the flowers and bushes will thrive and grow.

Unearthing the Truth

So, how do we handle the lies we believe which may cause unpleasant behavior and attitudes? Much like the weeds, we can pay attention to them, but that doesn’t make them disappear. We will need to stop and combat the lies with truth. The truth of who I am in Christ, the truth of the nature of God (Father), Jesus and Holy Spirit, the truth of the Scriptures. And probably, repeating truth multiple times a day for them to go away. It will take several days or weeks for the lies to weaken and disappear, depending on how strong the lie we believe. And just like the weeds, maintenance is the key in keeping the lies at bay so the truth allows us to thrive and grow.

Burrowing in resting and relaxing

We might find that we are believing multiple lies, which can be overwhelming. Remember to allow Holy Spirit to step in to lead, guide and direct. Repeating the truth while resting and relaxing in that truth is our part. We are not alone in combating the lies. Read 80 Days of Encouragement to learn more ways to start believing and refusing the lies.

It will take some work, just like weeding a flower bed. Time and intention is essential, however, the results will be worth it.
